A few weeks ago i set up a 55 gallon long Low-Tech planted tank. 48x12x23

Lighting: 48 inch power compact 130watts total
Substrate: Black Sand/Peat Gravel
Filtration: Rena Filstar XP4
Heater: 300 watt rena
Lights on 11 hours a day on timer
Fish: 2 discus 20 neons
Plants: Water Sprite, Java moss, Java Fern, Green cabomba, Crypts, vals, and a few other.

Ph 7.0
Ammonia 0
nitrates: 0
Nitrites 0

good water circulation
Water sprite moss ferns and a few other plants are showing growth.

Basically what i want to know from some more experienced planted low tech tank owners. what can i do to improve plant grown?

I dont want Co2 att all.
would prefer to not change substrate
and i am open to ideas on ferts.
really dont want to spend more then 20 dollars.

If you don't want to spend more than 20 dollars you can only get about 2 or 3 more plants. The average plant is around 6-8 dollars. 3 plants really wouldn't make much of a difference in a 55 gallon.

use seachem excel and flourish, all i had was a lil powerhead with the air attachment blowing and my plants outgrew my tank. became a huge mass of moss :(

i still have some left over, i just had the lil bottle, seriously all you need is like one or 2 capfuls (5-10ml) for every water change.

I thought you had to use it daily?
I was also, thinking about using 2 2 liter diy co2 systems with a airstone during night. What would be more effective

No, 1-2 times a week.
