I have a few tanks sitting around collecting dust as well as boxes and boxes of misc. aquarium accessories.

Tanks:
90g
55g
30g
23g
20g(w)
5g

Accessories:
(5) large rocks
(8) clay pots
(16) plastic plants
(1) Emperor 400 HOB filter (90g)
(5-7) 20g H.O.B filters
(4) 150W heaters
(8) 50W heaters
(1) 60W light setup (1 bulb)
(1) light setup for the 20g(w) (1 tube, unknown wattage)
(1) 120W light setup (3 tubes)
(1) (20-30g) air pump
(1) homemade air pump capable of supplying a 90g or several smaller tanks

Not sure why I bothered to list all that...:screwy:

Moving on though, I was thinking about breeding freshwater angelfish for profit but if I don't make a profit that's ok to cause I really enjoy doing it. Do I have the necessary equipment to make this happen? I dont want to spend to much cause im not a rich man but I am willing to dump about $100 into it if there's other things I need. I have done a fair amount of research on breeding angelfish and I think im up to the task.

What are some desirable types of freshwater angelfish in the hobby?
Any tips or suggestions would be much appreciated.

EDIT: would a small powerhead in the 90g be a good idea to supply additional airation?

Atlum angels go for a bit. Their the wild ones, but I hear their pretty hard to breed, and getting a pair wouldn't be cheap IMO.

Check out some LFS's every few days and keep track of what kind they sell and how many. If their selling 10 albino's a week compared to 3 of another kind then people around where you live must like the albino. Just a though.

I havent bred Angels in a bit and I dont really know which ones are worth more but, I have always spent more for gold Angels than any others.

Sounds like a plan.

Interesting. My dad told me a story many moons ago about him spending quite abit more for gold angels. Might be something to look into.

Well I did a run around town and hit all my local fish stores. I was surprised at how few angels I found. Anyway here's my findings.

(sorry if the labeling doesn't make sense, Im just going by what the LFS's had them labeled as)

Results from 4 lfs's.

Gold Pearl Scale:
2" - $10.00
3" - $20.00

Mixed Angels:
1" - $5.00

Black:
1 1/2" - $7.00

Assorted Veiltale:
2 1/2" - $13.00

On my rounds I noticed only one of the stores carried discus. I forget what kind but they were listed at $40 each. Due to the lack of availability it might be a better choice for breeding if I hope to make a profit.

Nice job on getting the angelfish info. Only thing with discus is it's going to put you down a bit in the begginning. Their not cheap as you have notice. Getting a pair won't be easy, you'll have to buy 4-6 young'ins and see what pairs up. I hope you get this started, take pics too. :)

Just to throw this out there. I am tearing down a decent sized fish breeding room and I have several sponge filters, Brass air line fittings, A lg blower. Lots of ceramic ornaments for the fish to spawn in. Set up was for African Cichlids. PM me if interested! Thanks

Not many angelfish...

I'd assume that either people are buying a lot of them, or buy very few. If a lot are bought, I'd breed angels, but if few are bought, I'd breed Discus (unless very few of them are bought too).
