I've had my new Black Aro for 3 days now. He acclimated great but seems timid. I have tried feeding him cut up shrimp and fish, live crickets and Hikari food sticks. He acts afraid of the crickets and won't go near the fish or shrimp. He did eat some of the food sticks on the second day but not many. He is very aware of me and will go to the opposite end of the tank from where I'm at. What can I do to get him eating better and become more comfortable with the tank and me? He is about 10-12". He seems very healthy, he swims all over the tank when he thinks nobody is watching. His only tankmate is my 7-8" Tig who doesn't ever even move untill the lights go out. Any advice would help alot! The distributor has fed him nothing but rosies, and I really don't want to feed live feeders to him if there is ANY other way.

just give him some time...he's probably still getting used to the new environment.

They are timid, ours has been in the tank for nearly a year now and is still easily spooked, they are that sort of fish.

A healthy fish will never starve themselves to death so the easiest way of acclimiting them to new foods is not to feed them anything but what you want them to eat, they will eat the new foods as soon as they are hungry.

It is good he is eating already, we have just put 2 C. Monoculus in the big tank and they did not eat for 10 days but are now eating prawn like it is going out of fashion, its down to perseverence

Steve :)

I had to wait two weeks for my baby snakeheads to stay near the front tank window when I approached...sometimes it takes time, I hear you have to be patient with Aros too...
