i got my first ever lung a protopterus annectens almost a month ago

now since the day i have got him, i have not seen him eat much, other than that, he also came with an injury, on its mouth, which hasn't healed yet, or could be healing, but i can't be sure of that. anyways the problem is he doesn't eat much.

after i got the fella i added some mollies to the tank, 10 of them to be precise, he ate 6 of them, the other 4 i threw as i found the darn mollies to have anchor worm, the day i saw that added salt to the tank, threw the mollies and did a large water change.

now the fish is 18-20" i guess, the tank it is in is a 34x24x20(inches)

the filter is a bubble filter, as the top filter broke and the guy is still getting one for me.

other than the above

i have tried feeding him many other things

fish fillet- with no luck at all

ghost shrimps- he doesn't seem to eat 'em i guess, and the little bastards started troubling the lung itself

snails- i breed apple snails as snack food for my clowns, so i tried feeding the same to this fella too, but didn't work that very well.

frozen blood worms- have put in the tank, but he doesn't seem to like that as he wasn't interested at all.

the fella doesn't move around much, i mean he does move once in a while to change places, also like to hide in a pipe that is there in the tank.

hoping some one with more experience in regard to lungs, can help me out over here.

Thank you

Try starving it for a week. Lungfish actually won't eat much just like most fish that gets almost bloated. Large lungfish will only eat a good size food and that's about it. My Lungfish will only eat 1 single 8" smelt or 2-3 5" sand that's it. Won't eat anything after that.

i started an earthworm culture and today tried to feed the lung one, in the morning and he seems to like

will continue to feed one a day for a few days and eventually try and get him to accept frozen foods

Lol! Why did I write sand? I mean 2-3 5" shrimps. I gotta stop smoking green when I go to MFK. Lol!

hello

I have had the same problem with my lungfish. I gave him ansjovis, because is has a great smell (for the fish) and it has a lot of fat.

otherwise (maybe weird) try sausages. in holland we have knakworst, looks like a hotdog sausage but smaller.

I give my lungfish: worms, shrimps, life fish, mice, rats, eggs (raw)

Lately it even was eating from my motorro, sadly the motorro didn't survive.
