Bought this tank couple weeks back, not in the best condition but a steal on the price. Only question is do I need to brace this thing? It doesn't have any braces at the moment. Tank is 72"x24"31" and glass is just over 1/2" thick. I'm going to try and get this beast cleaned up today and possibly reseal it. Let me know what you think, the tank in front is my 55gallon I plan on turning into a sump. Also, this guy kept an iguana in it, so the seal is destroyed from the heat lights, should I redo the seal between the glass as well as the seams? Let me know what you think!

that is an old style tank that had 4 peices of trim instead of the one peice molded braced frames of today's tank.

it was built braceless and should not need a brace, especially with 5/8" thick glass.

however, some people add braces for peice of mind. Also you can just go buy a glass top if you add a braced frame, as it would be standard.

I think braceless tanks made with extra thick glass are better than today's braced tanks with thinner glass. keep in mind though you will notice a slight bow with older tanks like that. it is normal and expected.

I would definately do a reseal and leak test on that beast as you suggested. great tank! makes your 55g look like a 10g.

perhaps consult the DIY board for more help?

for the seal stuff... i think you better test the tank first.... fill her up and see what happen..

good luck..

It could have been resealed but I am not sure, this guy only had an iguana in it, but he said the guy he got it from had fish in it. But yeah, I'm def. resealing, but not sure if I should redo the seams inbetween the glass panels.

Sounds great zennzoo, I appreciate that, since you just dealt with a 225 not long right? It's also looking like I may be needing some scrubbies! ;)
