i have a 37g that i want to convert to a breeding tank but not 100% sure how to go about it since all ive breed were convicts, guppies and bettas which were in small tanks. i just want to know how i would go about starting it for the best possible breeding tank.

should i continue to have my HOB filter on it or should i go with under gravel or sponge filters?
i also made a couple filters out of powerheads that seemed to work when i had them set up. right now the tank is cycled been running for over a year and water quality is great. hoping to have this ready to go this weekend since i leave for work out of town next week

all advice is great

i have 3 inch salvinis that i'm going to try out. atm a 2 inch convict and 2.5 inch texas are in the 37 till they get a little bigger to go in the bigger tank. and i see a lot of the time breeder tanks have bubblers going to circulate the water...is this necessary?

37 g isn't big enough to breed salvini

i was also thinking brichardi. cause i can get my hand on a few of those easily where i'm at. but never had cichlids like that. would these work?

Brichardi would be a good choice (Lamprologus or Chalinochromis). Plenty of rocks & caves will be needed. I would use coral sand for substrate, but its not a requirement. Good luck & you will see why Tang. cichlids are so interesting.
