I just found out that the stand that came with my 210 wont hold up to the job. I am going to build a new stand this weekend but have no clue what kind of lumber to use. I was looking at either 2X4 or 4X4 construction for the frame. I figured I would ask what people have used so I don't waste money and time. I definatly want to go overkill on the strength of the frame so there is no chance at all that I will come home one day and find my tank on the floor. Thanks in advance for the advice!!

Use 4x4s for each corner, you can use 2x4's for the bottom section and the top section, you can also use 2x4's for center braces running from top to bottom.

Make sure you build the stand on a stable and level surface.
Also make sure you clamp your pieces of wood together before screwing them together.

What I did for my 220 gal was I used 4x4 on everything except the front to back (horizontal) braces. I used 45 degree angles on the bottom and top frame so they were perfectly square. Then I used some really heavy duty bolts through the corners. I personaly like using bolts, but you have to drill the hole perfect for it to go through, which will most likely require a drill bit you dont have, and I also counter-sinked the bolt so you can skin the stand and finish it. Thats just what I did, you would be absolutlely 110% fine with 2x4's or a combination of both. I even know a guy that built a stand for a 220 gal out of 1x3's with very little braces! I really dont recommend that though haha

when you say you used the 45 angle to make everything square did you cut the ends of the 4X4's on the tom and bottom so the corner of each board would have a place on the legs if you know what I mean. I also plan on using 8"-10" lag bolts to hold the frame together and putting them in with an impact gun so they will be in there for good...lol I also am going to be countersinking the blost so I can put a nice face on the stand since It is going to be a show tank. I am also decided to flush mount a 55 in the middle of the stand that I am going to do a reef tank in. That I think is going to be tricky to make the stand structurally sound for both tanks while still having enough room for all the filters..lol

You could also do everything with 2x6's.

This is the frame work for my 125G tank's stand i DIY'd.

I dont have any blue prints, i designed and built the stand as i went.

The only measurements i had written down were the measurements of the aquarium.

Stand measures 36" Tall
76" Long
23" wide
