I am planning on building my first pond. I have used the search engine but also need some advice for MY project. I want to put it on my deck (above ground of course). It will measure 8'x12'x2'6" (pictures of the area, pretty much the square where the deck furniture is). Will this area be ok (mildew on the house or any other worries)? I live in a very dry area, average of 90's in the summer and low 30's in the winter with an occasional teens. I plan on constructing it out of 2x4"s and insulating it. stock will be goldfish for now. Thanks in advance.

Leave an area 12-14" behind the pond. You will have plenty of room to work on that side of the pond, and give the siding plenty of air flow.

Are you planning a 2X4 frame w/plywood, or BOTR style w/ lumber stacked? Both styles have been done with great success, just a little more searching and you will see many ideas.

I will be doing the 2X4 frame w/plywood. I am going to try to start it this week. Is their a certain amount of sun exposure I need? I'm sure I will have lots more questions. Thanks

Most lillies and full-sun plants need 6 hours of direct. I think you can still get a good amount of blooms from lillies w/a little fertilizer and slightly less sun. 6 hours is a good number. Any more and algae issues arise, any less any plants may struggle.
