Hi bros. .

Need some advice on this coz I do not want to misinterpret what I've read online..

I recently changed to a overhead trickle filter (wet/dry filter). Water output is as shown in pic.. as I feel that the output seems strong enough and there's a lot of surface agitation frm the bubbles, I removed my air stones (previously had 2 of those) from the tank.

I read that air stones dun really serve much of a purpose apart frm decoration and trickle filter or wet/dry filter oxygenates water quite a bit, that's when I decided to remove the air stones.

Am I doing this correctly? I do not want to suffocate my fishes. They've nt been gulping for air at the surface and seems fine. Just that i notice they're nt as active as before. But I did not see them going to the surface to gulp for air.

Pls do advice.. really need to know and learn.. thanks!!! ;)

Apologies for the wrong orientation of the pic. Should be tilted to the right..

Anyways the output nozzle is below water surface as shown in the pic.. ;)

I think you should be ok with what you have. I use a Marineland Tidepool 2 sump on my 125. The water falls through 3 media trays and then over the large bio-wheel, which provides all the oxygen my tank needs. I use no other aeration in this tank. I did used to have a sponge filter in the sump that I could pull for emergency quarantine use, but that's been out of the tank for 4 months or so. Have never had a problem.

Only reason I could possibly see you needing more is if you had a warm-water tank, such as for Discus. The warmer the water, the less oxygen it can carry, and so you need additional aeration to support it.
