Hi, I've been thinking of setting up an angel fish aquarium but have no idea about creating a proper set up.

I have a 55g not in use that I would like to use. I planned on having a natural aquarium with plants, rocks, and driftwood. For the plants I was going to use java ferns and java moss because I have kept them before with little maintence. I plan on having 3 angels ( the ones with three black stripes I think are called silver angels), a school of tetras, and 3 siamese algae eaters. I'm just wondering if this is a suitable set up, and if anyone could give me any tips or advice.

I just think it's about time I have a relaxing peaceful aquarium to watch and tend to.

thanks to all that reply:)

The only thing I see wrong with that setup is the algae eaters. Siamese tend to like to suck the slime coat off of slow-moving fish and discus and angels are prime candidates for that sort of thing. Instead, I'd encourage you to get otto cats (otocinclus spec.). They are much better at keeping algea at bay anyway. They also don't get aggressive, like the siamese algae eaters do when they get older.

Sounds like it'll be a nice tank when it's done!

thanks for the advice, the only problem is that my tanks get black algae and I'm not sure if ottos will eat it.

Sounds like a great setup. Since you asked for advice, I would suugest that you leave some open areas for swiming and have some cozy arrangements for exploring/hiding. My young angels love swimming over, under, around and through the plants, rocks, etc. They like to hunt for snail eggs.
I would also go with a BN rather than the CAEs. I have diferent types of string algae off and on. With a little pruning it never gets out of control and a little bit actually adds a more "lived in" look and feel to the tank.
Have fun with it!

what type of tetras, if small tetras I wouldn't do it. tetras like cardinals are natural food for angels out in the wild. if small angels I would raise them up in a bare bottom tank, till they get a little big bigger then quarter size then put them in a planted tank.

Like any other cichlid as they reach maturity males may fight and if 2 pair off they may try to chase the 3rd out of the tank.Other than that it sounds good.
