I have a small area to work with and need to stack two small tank for breeding. I only have 2x2' area to work with.... Should i go with 2x4" or weld up a small frame to same room? If i go with 2x4" that means i lose a few inch but if i attach a frame i can get 2x2' tank .... anyone got any small tank stack plants out there? and how much will a 2x2x2 or close will weight?

Well a gallon of water is around 8.4 pds and a tank that dimension would be about 60 gallons. So it would be about 504pds plus filters substrate weight of the tank etc. so figure on the heavy side 600pds each. I am a big fan of steel. It is less likely to rot and holds more weight for it's size and I think is more forgiving when working with it. So I would weld up a stand if you have the option. My main concern of stacking tanks on wood stands is it is alot of weight to be supported by brackets and bolts.

Well i know Douglas Fir can hold up to 1500lbs... But a smaller tank of 20x20x18 If i make the thing out of wood... side note im not using any Gravel or anything.. BB tanks with a small light to dim the tank. Ive seen 2x4 set up with more then 100g stacked and holding fine. I've also seen an over kill... 4x4 holding 300g tank bit they you can never be sure... all tho i know that wood can hold 1500lbs but we do it at work all the times, walls weighing around 700-900lbs and we prop them up..

The1and Only: what math are u usig.... my math always seems to have a 25% margen... when i do the 321 trick.... and always come out low in galloons from tanks i know how much they hold.
