I tried to start a new tank with established media, however the BB was killed some how. It was only God that let me know the bb was dead I assumed it was fine since it had been fine for a year and was fine to start my new 220.

Any way my questions is this, what if I drain the 55 down to just low enough to keep the fish in water; then fill it back up with water from the 220. I can then re fill the 220 with fresh water since its filter can filter the ammonia in 12 hours. My thought process here is that the 55 with the now dead bb will be filled with water that is 0 ammonia, and should have some trace amounts of bb. I want to do this to save on prime it will be expensive to dose the tank every day with prime for the next however long for this cycle. I figure if I do this I can get by with draining the 55 about every 3 days, this will save on prime, and hopefully dose the tank with trace amounts of bb.

Since there is only one fish in the tank, it would be no big deal for me to take that fish out and put him in a established tank, but then his tank wont cycle.

If you want to know more about how the established media was handled and how i figured out it died see my post in lessoned learned titled almost messed up. I feel like a total noob here puting a fish in an uncycled tank, but I have done this 4 times in the past with far more fish and never had this happen. I am confussed at what went wrong this time, but I guess the lesson is never assume the media is still established.

If you can take him out and go fishless cycle adding as much seeded media as possible. My best suggestion. I would not rely on a tanks water to cycle a tank

Done. Thanks for the advice you have been very helpful during this whole procces.
