As some of you know I have a medium sized male midas (7-8 inches). Well, I found a mate for him a few days ago. She is the exact same size and color. When I put her in the tank the male was very interested for a while then tried his best to kill her. After two hours of torment, I removed the female and placed her back in quarantine to heal; she is doing very well.
I have raised the water temperature in the males tank to aprox. 82 degrees (previously 75 degrees) in hopes the warm temperature will stimulate breeding and not killing. I have also done another water change (60% weekly). I plan to introduce the female again on Sunday, unless anyone has better advice. I am open to suggestions.

You should have 3 felmales to one male, you need to give him a "harem" of girls to choose from, he may breed with all of them. This will increase your chances of getting babies, and not a dead female. Hope this helps!

Get a much smaller female; 5" female will do. Divide the tank with a divider, and cut a hole in the divider so the female can enter the side with the male, and leave to safety if he gets too aggressive.

Thank you
I will definitely give those thoughts some consideration in the upcoming week, as I want this to work out for the best.

make sure you cut more than one hole for her in the divider...in her panic she might have a little hard time finding that one hole to get away from him..... i do agree with the divider though...very good idea. Also...do a water change about two days after introducing her and add cooler water...this seems to stimulate cichlids into breeding! :D
