Hey guys, I have a 120g with 1 male Jack Dempsey, 1 Male Green Severum, 1 Male Firemouth, 1 male Convict and 3 Clown Loaches. All fish are between 3.5 and 5inches. The Firemouth is really harassing my Convict and won't leave him alone, no damage but my convict lays on its side all day and night behind a plant and just comes out to eat. I tried putting him in my 180g with some bigger less aggressive South American fish but he didn't do we'll in there so I put him back. I love my Convict he's a real nice bull male, but I also think I have a really nice Firemouth that is growing to be a real stunner. I am torn between giving up my con or giving up my firemouth, but the decision is hard because my firemouth is the nicest I have seen. Can you guys give me some advice, my gut says give the con to a good home and he would be happier, another part of me lovesem and does not want to give him up. If I gave him up, other than a Salvini, what would be a good fish to take his spot? Thanks guys tough call but I appreciate the advice! I like Amphilophus Armarillos, kinda look like a con with the stripes and nice hump, wit do you think.

Hey sorry guys, I just watched my firemouth for 15 minutes gill flair, harass, and nip a little for 15 straight minutes while my convict laid on his side. Although he doesn't do any damage, I think first thing I do tomorrow is to bring the con to a better home, It kinda makes me feel bad when I watch this. So is there any suggestions I could try to put another fish in there. I like Viejas, amphilophus, or any other suggestions, what do you guys think. Thanks!

Hi, with your current stock you might try adding some more smaller cichlids. It's a risk, but it may spread aggresion. That's a tough firemouth that you have.
About Amarillos, my avatar is a 14 inch male. They are stunning fish.

Edit: after reading your second post it might be best to take the convict out.

I might be pushing it but that would be the exact fish I want that is in your avatar, probably can't happen though right? If it could I would be pumped, my tank is heavily filtered and 85% water changes every week if that helps! Don't just tell me what I want to here Ha ha, but if it could happen let me know. I would get him small and see what happens! Thanks

You can. When looking at my own Amarilo, and other Amphilophus species that I owned, they all ignore smaller cichlids. But when you put a 12 inch Amarillo with a 12 inch Midas or Jag it will be warzone, since they are comptetion.
The Severum might get too big so an Amarillo might start to chase him. Dempseys were ignored by my Amphs.
So you can give it a try if you take the convict and the Severum out.
