I have a 150g front tank. i have 7 3" fronts and 7 tangs all about 1" each. i also have 4 3" clown loaches. i have a cascade 1500 canister filter rated at 350gph. it says tanks up to 200g. i also have 2- 75g biowheels rated at 350 each. the canister filter seems to have alot of bypass and does not do well. what would ya'll recommend i should do to for better filtration? i know sumps and W/D filters are best but i'd rather not go that route. please any suggestions. does anyone have experience with the cascade 1500?

No but the Penguins should be fine with bio filtration so what Id do is add more coarse blue pads of filter floss and anything like that. Canisters are really mainly made for mecanical (sp) filtering. Maybe a new canister? I'f you do for some reason deffintly go Eheim. But if you dont, add coarse pads to the filter and it should go away.

that's what i figured. i have a bag of filter floss and i've been stuffing that in there.

You have it or you used it. And if you did use it, how long ago was it in there?

How do you know your canister has alot of bypass? My experience with canisters is the are designed to have very little bypass. I have rena xp3, eheim 2026, eheim 2226 and even the magnum 350 all are designed to have no bypass. I am not familer with cascade(except for use in my dishwasher:naughty:).

Why do you feel your filtration is lacking? Are your water params too high or do you have alot of particle waste floating around.

My advice would be to add either an AC110 HOB filter or go with a rena filstar xp3 canister which you can get for about $100.

i know i have bypass because i see depris come out the return every now and then and i dont think it is tube build up. i've been using filter floss for two months now and i change it the first of the month, every month. i may just be paranoid. i finally have me dream tank with all my dream fish and i want it do be perfect. as far as aquatic knowledge, i lack in the filtration dept. i just want everyone to say, " you've got plenty of filtration, u'll be fine."

here's the simple: i have 2- 75g biowheels(350gph) which i change all four cartriges monthly and 1- 200g canister filter (350gph) which i also change monthly. that's a total of 1050gph turning the tank over 7x an hour. according the filter(s) i have enough filtration for a 350g. i plan to add another cascade 1500 in a year or so after the fish grow some
