So my buddy at work showed me this link to a breeder of supposed American Pit bull terrier's. Quickly upon looking at these dogs you can obviously tell that they are not a true APBT. They are absolutley massive. One weighing over 170lbs. A true apbt will rarely ever be over 60lbs. This is from decades and decades of these dogs being bred to achieve this. (I know there will be a few exceptions but almost 3x the normal size will not happen.) How do I explain to this guy that these are not american pit bulls. He feels that a American pit bull has mastive in them so even if they did recently breed back in mastive it would be considered a american pit bull terrier. Even though that mastive does not match that standards of a APBT. I have tried presenting this guy with everything that I can and he is still willingly ignorant to understanding how breeding and genetics work.

Doesn't sound as if there is much that you can do to sway your friends thinking so just leave the subject be....as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss. The dogs on that site sound like the recent cross breedings of pits and Cane Corso that were popular here a while ago...If he wants a pit- mastiff then let him go and get one.

Thank you, finally someone else that knows what they are talking about when in comes to pits. Yea probably gonna drop it, I just hate not educating someone on our beloved APBT's. There is so much wrong information out there and way to many people that takes it fro fact.

I agree and that can also go for the fishkeeping hobby to a lesser extent.

Yea, that is why I joined this forum. I am pretty new to the hobby and still learning. Currently in the process of trying to rehome some of my fishes or hopefully get the 125g set up. But that is a convo for another thread. lol
