My friend has 1 male & 1 female in the same tank. Somehow the female has a lot of damage around the outside of her disk. We're not sure if it was caused by the male biting or parasite.... ? So he moved them apart for 2 weeks already but there is improvement. Please watch the video and give us some advises. thank you. :headbang2

Looks like damage from attempted mating to me, has it gotten any worse since they where separated? I am not sure how long it takes for the females to heal from damage like that. The male will try to latch onto her with his mouth around the rear sections of her disc, I dont see any damage in the front so pretty sure thats whats going on.

Oh, oh; If thats the case then I might have a couple of alternative lifestyle rays:) My big male chews on my small male but only in the rear portion of the disc;

:ROFL: I havent seen bite marks on any of my males like that before, only the females. My bigger males sometimes dominate the smaller ones, basically by sitting on them, they make a dome over them and wont let them out.

well its hard to see, but I think I cought a glimps of the males claspers around the 52sec mark of the video. Thats one good way to tell if he is even ready to have fun like that with the female.
To me, looks like its a breeding thing. Like the others, cant say for sure, but thats what it looks like to me.
If you can, get a close up shot of the male around were the tail meets the body..
that way we can tell if he is mature enough even to breed. Second, how old are the rays??...
Rays like to play, but usually in my exp dont do that kind of damage unless he is trying to mate her.. But I could be wrong.. I myself have not had mine long enough and my males are not mature enough yet to mate..
If there is improvement in her healing when they are seperated, then I would say he is the cause of it.. Not alot you can do if it is him, either let them mate, when she gets knocked up he will leave her alone for awhile, or just have to seperate forever.. lol
hope this helps

clean tank..looks like a mating damages to me!
