thanx guys

its kinda like a birthday gift for her

Lots of options with a 55 g. Discus are gorgeous fish, and contrary to what people claim they're NOT hard to take care of. Mine get a weekly 60% water change and they're nitrates never get over 10 ppm. You could put 4 in a 55 gal although they feel most comfortable with a minimum of 5-6. My 4 did great in a 55 g (they've moved to a bigger tank now). The drawback with Discus is they're so dang expensive-about $50 each & then you've got shipping on top of that. If you're not an experienced fish keeper any fish you try make not make it. The poor grade Discus I've seen at fish shops are 3 times more expensive than Discus from a good breeder online.
You might try Angelfish. Or just 1 or 2 Angels with some Cory cats at the bottom and female Bettas or one of the gentler schooling Tetras.
PS Cycle your tank with the fishless method of cycling before getting any fish and you'll be money ahead :-)

My lfs breeds full grown discus....Each pair is seperated in their own 30g tank...The tanks are bare(no gravel)....The tanks are simple....One brick in the center for egg laying, a small heater, and small AquaClear HOB....I would start off with five 1-2 inch growouts....Stick an AC101(or the next size smaller) on the tank...Get 150-200w heater, I recomend Jebo-Hager....Picture the tank with no gravel....Have a couple of smooth river rocks laying on the floor....
