It's in the retention pond at my job. will need to do the netting on the weekend or at night.

Looks like a sunfish, but it's only about an inch if that. There is a large (as large as it could be on these little guys) spot about mid-body and they appear to be striped or have rows of spots going down from their back. not too good with colors (color blind and there was some glare), but they looked mostly tan with the spots and stripes being black or dark brown.

This is in southwest florida and the ponds are stocked, at least with bass and bluegill but they also connect with a larger natural pond now (I hate that they do this).

Any possible I.D.'s would be greatly appreciated pics are a plus too. Thanks guys.

I'm just trying to get my native stuff going again since a friend has my 75 and all I'm working with now (at least a year) is a 29. if these are something cool, I would put them in the 29 to grow out and either have something larger for them or move them to my friend's pond.

I figured it was maybe a warmouth. Not sure and I don't see them every time that I go out to the pond to smoke so I can't really plan on getting a photo. I don't think there would be any tilapia in this area yet, the buildings have been here less than a year and the lakes aren't fed by any rivers.

Looks like I'll have to catch the little guys and get a photo or two.

Sounds like a pygmy sunfish....
Is this the fish?

This is Elassoma Zonatum

Just about, they are a little lighter where there are no stripes and there's still the largeish black dot about mid body.

Do we get pygmy sunfish in florida? I'm sure we do we get everything else.

yeah i think that's it. I've never seen any of those around here before. we never catch any when we go out netting where we get our bluegill.

Oh well, I can certainly use some flagfish in the tank. There are at least ten of them that all hang out in the same spot most of the time. I might have to go to the office on a saturday.
