Hi,

So I have this tiny organism that came with my daphnia and still lives with them. They are about the same size. My daphnia cultures have been going down in population, and yet these organism still live and thrive, makes me wonder if they have anything to do with the Daphnias' demise. Anyway, I am providing a video so you can see what they look like

those are some kind of insect live in the water, they can eat anything they found, including daphnia!

take as many daphnia as you can, don't let those thing mix into them and kill the rest! daphnia can reproduce very fast if provide a good environment with enough foods!

Do you know the name? They are not quite an insect, they are like daphnia, more close to a type of shrimp.
I can't tell what are they unless there is a better video of them, my guess is they are either a kind of insect that live in water or a kind of parasites that I usually see sucking nutrients from fish!

Yes I did, and those pics are exactly them. Those are some very good photos. Yeah I know they are some type of tiny crustacean but not sure of a name. Maybe it is safe to assume they are a type of clam shrimp. I added a bunch to my fish tank and I can see some still living/swimming around. Some do get eaten but they do better on survival than the daphnia I have noticed. I think some fish don;t like eating them, probably cause of their shell.

They look like ostracods to me. Most of the common freshwater species are filter feeders like daphnia and probably compete with them for food. Fortunately, most animals that will eat daphnia will eat ostracods too, so if they are breeding well, just keep them going.
