ive done it!!! ive found heaven!!! theres a fish store in san antonio called Texas Tropicals. it has every freshwater monster you can think of! every bichir there is! and ive setup my 35g for a growout for one or two will try to move them to a 60g when they get 8'' or would a 40g with a big floor area work?... help me decide the species
my options are delhezis, senegals, ornates, and marbles. i really see the appeal in delhezis but if i got one i might as well get a few right? how about two senagals and a delhezi? can i add one first then the other two later, will that cause a problem? please help this is my first time with bichirs. ive got two sword plants and some hydrilla will this need to be removed. will sinking pellets work, can i feed them supplemented crickets?

Welcome to the world of bichirs! Id say if you know the 60 is gonna happen you could probably get away with a few delhezi's . Although I really like senegals a lot. I just got an ornate and a delhezi they are full of personality ! I would stay away from the ornates unless you can get a 75 or bigger.
Best of luck bud ,
PS I own several senegals (From 2"to 9") and while they are fairly common they are a lot of fun.

Congrats on finding some bichirs!

I would definitely go with senegals and delhezi, make sure your filtration is up to par.

two sens and a del will be fine.

yes you can add some later, you might observe territorial disputes but it's rare for them to get out of hand.

You can keep the plants in, bichirs love hiding amongst plants, but they might uproot them from time to time.

Sinking pellets high in protein are an excellent food choice for bichirs, but skip the crickets. Crickets have a sharp spine that could seriously hurt or even kill a bichir. if you want to supplement or add variety, look into earthworms, market shrimp/prawn and fish fillets, chopped into small pieces.
