Need Catfish and Carp Fishing Tips

Hi i live in So Cal and a lot of ponds in my area are home to catfish and carp. The best thing i've caught was a small carp, using earthworms, somewhere around midnight or later.

Any tips to help me catch bigger fish? What kind of equipment and bait should i use and what time should i go fishing at? Thanks for all your help ahead of time

For carp, I haven't had any better success than good ol bread balls. I toss em in on a smaller hooker let them sink and when they hit, they'll hit hard. carp put up a great fight. Catfish usually earthworms on the bottom. I have had carp hit all times of the day as long as you know where they are.

try raw shrimp hugged to the bottom with a decent sinker to keep it sitting still. catfish go crazy for raw shrimp.

I honestly couldn't tell you how to locate carp, they can smell the food so they'll find you. I just kind of throw it in and go to town.

Catch a smaller fish and cut it up into chunks and use that,or ivory soap. I catch huge catfish all the time on that.

use a bow and shoot the carp and use chicken liver for the cat fish

I use to fish for carp and catfish as a kid. In my experence, anything that gives off a strong odor will attract both species like a magnet. The stinkier, the better. Try leaving chicken parts in the sun for a day. Should make good bait. Also, use enough weight to make sure the bait is on the bottom, very important. Set a fairly stiff drag on your reel, and wait. When a fish grabs the bait, don't rush to set the hook, or you'll lose him. Wait until the fish takes off with the bait before you try to reel him in.

Good ole' corn strung on the hook will do the trick for carp, Any rotting meat will catch you catfish.
