Picked this guy up at my LFS marked as Polypterus Palmas. Now I'm not experienced at all in keeping Poly's but to me it just looks like a normal Senagalus, so I figured I'd ask you guys if my ID is right or my LFS's ID is right. I checked the ID thread and it seems to confirm my ID, but I figured I'd get others opinions too. Thanx guys in advance.

Not a Palmas or a Senegalus.
Not even an upper jaw.
That is a Lapradei.
They are a lower jaw, and much larger than a Senegalus.

Thanks, I appreciate the help with the ID. I always thought Laps had a prominent pattern as well as generally darker coloration. I just assumed because of the lack of a prominent pattern and extremely light coloration it was a Senegalus. He was just as light colored in the LFS tank so I assumed this was his normal unstressed coloration, will he darken like I've seen in other pics pf Lap's?

The coloration of the lap has a lot to do with the substrate in the tank. I recently purchased a lap from another member that was kept with white sand and it was totally washed out. I could barely make out any of the markings. But when I put it in my tank with my black sand his colors came out and he is now a dark green and bold stripes. What kind of substrate was in the tank?

hmm I thought laps were considered upper jaw for some reason... and the only lower jaw species were endli, pbb, and ansorgi. Any others?

Nope laps are lower jaw. If you look closely you can see that their lower jaw sticks out farther than their upper jaw, thus a lower jaw species. You can add Congicus to your list ad well

Thanx for the info. bro. As for in the LFS the tank he was in was really dark. No lights black background and blue and black gravel, though in my tank the substrate is white sand. I've read that Laps come in a variety of patterns depending on their locality. Perhaps being captive bred as King-el is saying is the reason behind the reduced light pattern.

very nice lap. Also 15 finlets. Rare for laps especially cb laps.

Thanx bro, I appreciate the compliment payed $30 for him and he's around 9 inches. Also appreciate the info. had no idea CB poly's tend to have less finlets.

Quick question Rapps is selling Lap's has anyone seen what his look like? He doesn't have any posted on his site and I was thinking if his where considerably darker and had a more prominent pattern I'd like to pick one up from him too.

Also another quick question for you guys what would you say your best source is for Poly's? I'm dying to pick up a Moke and Weeksii, I tried Rehoboth with no luck, thanks in advance.
