im tutoring my little brother in english and math but i stucked at english in highschool too. Question: in the sentance, "joe is making pizza in the pizza shop." is the verb 'making' or 'is making'? i cant remember if the helping verb AND the action verb are considered as one verb.

"Making" is the verb in this case.

a main verb and one or more helping verbs for a _____.

Also, original question but what is the action verb, making or is making?

Easiest way to figure out what a verb is......... usually you can ask yourself what or who is doing what. Example..... what IS Joe doing to the pizza? His is MAKING it or he is EATING it. An adverb is a describer of what action is being taken and usually end in -ly. Example...... Great is greatly, beautiful is beautifully. Joe beautifully sang the opera.
