My TSN is about 4-5 inches long and always ate good, but since i got a RTC and put him in the same tank the TSN hardly eats(maybe 1 piece of shrimp every other day or so)the RTC was smaller but as since had a big growth squirt(got him at 3-4 inches 3 weeks ago and is now pushing 6 inches). The TSN is kinda pushed around at feeding time, but nothing really serious, could this be why he is not eating so well???I would consider getting rid of the RTC if need be.Thanks!!!

Ive had mine together for 6 months and there little over a foot now and my fish do the exact thing. Ive heard of TSN sometimes going without food for days sometimes weeks. Ive have never had a problem with mine she eats when she gets hungry.

hmmm, my solution is stuff the rtc till he won't eat anymore then he'll settle down and be calm for a bit on the bottom(hopefully) Then feed the tsn after he calms down. I have my baby rtc in with a silver tipped shark cat, and the shark doesn't eat till the rtc is full. My rtc will be going in with my 6" tsn soon. The rtc is a little less than 4". Hope this helps just a thought really.

Well that is how it usually works out,the RTC eats anything that hits ths bottom, then when he cant move i try to hand feed the TSN,he has just been eating so sparsly, but i guess as long as he does eat something once in awhile,i neednt worry.

The same thing used to happen to my RTC & TSN. Thats pretty funny. My TSN learned that come feeding time anything goes. He's a much more aggressive eater now.My TSN actually grows quicker than my RCT too.

I'm also keeping two hybrids together and one is dominating the other now. I dont know how long it will last but if it doesnt end soon they might have to be seperated. One guy hangs in the corner.........all day.

good luck....

with an TSN and a RTC sometimes there isnt enough food to go around its such the case a lot of time and they need to be fed out of a tube or use long tongs.

a tiger shovelnose is more of an "ambush" predator that's rather slow to feed compared to the red tailed catfish, which will go crazy when it senses food.

with that said, i recommend had feeding. it's fun and interactive while at the same time will solve your problem.

this has been my solution in trying to keep the growth closer between my rtcxtsn and my tsn.... I first bought my tsn at about 4.5 and is now like 6" and my hybrid at like an inch and a half and is now around 9." Ok so I had bought Hikaris sinking carnivour pellets.... you know the one with the little rtc on the front... well I didn't realize how darn small they were and my hybrid wont even look at them, but my tsn doesn't mind picking them out of the gravel. So now I only feed my hybrid enough to keep his belly slightly rounded and I gorge my tsn just about daily (with a 1 day fast once about every week and a half.) I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks now so I'll keep you posted on the growth rates, but my tsn loves these pellets and the hybrid doesn't even see them as food (or at all) so if you try them or find a food that your tsn will eat and your rtc wont (good luck finding anything else hahaha) then you might just be all set! Good luck and keep us posted!
