I plan to buy a 20 gal long this weekend with standard filtration and heating and most likely pool filter sand as substrate.

Question is: what sort of tank should it be? :(
Convict breeding pair???
OR
Shell Dweller harem???
OR
Dwarf Cichlid breeding pair???

I want to know what type of fish I'm going to have before I set up the aquascape so that it looks good and makes me and my fish happy. :D

I like all of these and was just wondering which one gives the most satisfaction. I want to try and pull for at least one successful spawn (possibly others) before I introduce maybe some more fish.

Any suggestions/ideas? :help2:

its really all a matter of personal preference, convicts have great personalities but you will have trouble getting rid of all the babies they make.

Unless you have a place(s) for the fry from breeding pairs, go with the shell dwellers.

Shellies ftw! (I can't believe I just typed that, but I'll go with it...)
That would be a sweet tank with sand, a little rock pile at one end, some val at the other, and like 100 shells front and center

I would go with the shell guys. Not that i have kept any of the fish on your list, but i reckon they would be heaps interesting.
