I know it sounds like a newbie question but I'm going to ask anyway. I have a 180 with 4 bass a dat a geo and pike all about 10". I have an fx5 filled with scrubbies and ceramic rings and 3 aquaclear 110's with the sponges and filter floss. I also have a spare bucket full of the rectangular sponges that go into the 110s. My question is should I just stuff the fx5 with nothing but sponges and then stuff th 3 ac 110s with nothing but scrubbies and ceramic rings for biological filtration. Water is not as clear as I know it can be right now. Tank has been running for years but I haven't achieved that crystal clear water. A sump is not an option for me.

Sometimes with too much water movement it is hard to obtain crystal clear water. The fine particles are always moving. You need some media in your filters that will trap the fine particulate.

Sometimes the lighting color can cause the water to not look so clear. Mayb try adding a UV to see if it helps.
