i bought a green terror with 9 other african cichlids as babys and they are still babys. they get a long great and i wanted to start breeding GT's. i went to my LFS and bought another GT, i just put them in together and the one that i had origianlly went up to it and started shimmering its tail/trying to get in front of the new one and now its chasing the one i just bought today everywhere trying to nip at it. is this normal behavior? Breeding Behavior or i accidently got two juvenile males? i have no idea i bought the two GT's with the cichlids but one died so the origianl one was used to the same species. any ideas>? btw 55g tank lots of hiding places, everything the gts need.

how old/big are the gts? you have to sex them before trying to pair them. gluck

yeah.. gts slowly grow and mature, so you will have to wait. unless there is an obvious colorful male and drab female, i doubt you will get them to pair up anytime soon. be patient- and hopefully they dont kill each other. also, try to remove the gts from the africans cichlids, and into their own tank.

Too young. Also, you could have 2 males. Also even if one is male and 1 female its still possible for them not to get along. 55 gallons is small for multiple GTS and africans. If your GT is the dominat fish it will hassle any new fish. If you really want to breed GTs, get rid of all the africans and pick up a few more GTs. Then let them pair off. Then get rid of the rest. At the current size of your GTs, its pretty difficult to sex them. I'd say close to 4 inches and it would be more evident.

Once you have a pair, it should work for awhile, but long term a 55 gallon is small for a pair. A 75 gallon and up would be good for a full grown pair.

im selling my african cichlids this weekend. yeah i really hope this dominant one doesnt kill the one i just got i dont feel like driving back tp the pet store with a dead fish in exchange for another one. as soon as i get rid of the cichlids i plan on getting like 2-3 more. this guys really arregsive to the new one as im typing and watching them at the same time

looking at them now my original is around 3inches if not a lil bit bigger and the new one is 2.6ish hard to measure in a tank lol. no noticiable bump tho one has orange around its fins and the other has white? the bigger one has a black spot in the middle and the new one has the same gt blk spot in the center of two gold lines? probley too early to sex just tryin to help anyone that knows and can help me without pics cuz my camera is broken=-p

The one with white is a white saum, the one with orangish is a gold saum. This doesnt help really with sexing them. If you get rid of the africans, grab like 3 more GTs, try to get them about the same size as the others.

the new one i got is on its last leg i really dont understand why the origianl one keeps attacking it. the african cichlids are very small and it doesnt touch them. i took out the originals hiding place thinking maybe its a territory thing and it still swims over and attack the new one.
