I'm not sure if I should post here so I checked if somebody did try ID'ing fishes in this forum first. I am not sure as to what type of fish it is.

Anyway, I saw this fish in my LFS a few weeks ago. I was fascinated and almost took it home but having no background with this fish, I stopped myself and said I need to do research first. I forgot I have a camera phone. Based on memory, I searched for images of this supposed "eel". After a few hours of searching, I decided it is an electric eel. So I told myself, I will not get it. Today, I looked at it again and found that the undulating fin is not an anal fin but a dorsal fin and no caudal fin. It is very much a BGK but upside down and minus the stripes. What do you think it is? The Chinese name as I have heard it is that of a knife and not an eel. <Sorry for the bad quality pic>

Even though ours is in his own tank.. can never justify getting rid of him... an amazing fish. once they hit 18" they tend to slow down considerably in growth. Dont see bigger ones often, not sure why. they are def predetors though and will eat or kill most tankmates.

That in your avatar is your aba knife? From the websites I visited tonight, it seems that he does not only grow to 5 feet but he also has razor sharp teeth. Definitely scared me to get him. Poor other fish in his tank (the one I was supposed to buy). Probably the reason why the other fish are so wary of him. He seems to have an attitude too from what I observed.

Yep, Thats Bruce. hes 2+ yrs now. I have a thread on the knife subforum from when we got him at a few inches until more recent about raising/ living with him.
