:help2:
I just got a new 5" ray a few weeks ago. My ray seems to be doing fine, swimming around and eating good. But today I noticed some dark brown/black warts near the edge of it's disc. Also, she has tiny black spots on her that stick out a tiny bit, look just like blackheads, and she seems to be breathing a little heavier than normal today as well.

What do I do?

Alright everyone, I'm sitting here looking at John's stingray and I can see what he's talking about but you can't really see it in the pictures. Plus, there's no possible way I could get a good enough pic to show haha. But "wart" would be the best way to describe it. Big Black warts on her. I'm thinking maybe a fungus?

I think that it might be external parasites. Do the "warts" move around, or are they in slightly different spots when you look again? I'm thinking that it might be Argulus (fish lice). Get more close-up shots of the "warts", and observe them very closely. I've had these before, and they are NO fun. Whatever you do, don't use a medication that will harm your rays (such as Fluke Tabs). Make sure you find out what it is, pronto, and then wipe it out.

I went back and looked at pictures of a stingray that we got shipped in with Argulus, and it looks exactly like that. I really think that you should observe that closely, and if it does turn out to be fish lice than you should do your research and wipe those little bastards out of existence.

Chompers had a similar problem, and his thread is here:

I have not used any meds, just water-changed, bumped up temp and added salt... I have not seen them move at all, and it basically looks like a mole or something growing on it.

do they have a flower type design in them? Im thinking its just growth marks, for any other questions you are better off in the stingray forum more people can see
