I filled up a 120g a few days ago and today I found some water built up around the plastic frames and between the tank and the stand. I am really really hoping that this might just be water that splashed out from the returns or from me working in the tank and splashing water out.

I have been trying to dry everything completely using towels and canned air to see if more water will show up. Pointed the returns down and put my DIY canopy on top to prevent any water splashing out. I also marked the water levels exact location on my sump to see if there is any sign of excessive water loss.

Does anyone have any tips or know a sure way to figure out if and where it's leaking?

Okay I have had this tank running for a few days now basically set up so that no splashing can occur whatsoever. There is absolutely no sign of water anywhere outside the tank which is a good thing. It seems to lose about 1/2 gallon to 1 gallon per day, is this normal evaporation? I'm guessing water just splashed out dripped down the side of the tank and built up around the bottom. I think I was a bit paranoid since this is my first semi-big tank.

New question though. This is for my turtle, I built a custom wood canopy for it that is about a foot tall and has a plexi-glass window in the front. This was done so she would have an above tank basking area meaning more room to swim. The problem is when it is sitting on top of the tank there seems to be tiny cracks between the canopy and the tank frame where water could splash out. Is this going to be a problem? Any one have any suggestions on how to fill the cracks or prevent water from getting out?
