i have a what i believe is a 100 watt heater in a 20 gallon tank. keeps the temp at around 75 degrees. if i threw in a 50 watt heater as well, will it turn up the heat a bit? because my convict cichlid used to be active in her previous tank which was at 80 degrees. she is now not active and not eating much. have an air pump also put in thinking she would be more active but i was wrong. can anyone help me?

It's possible that putting another heater in there would help the first one raise the temperature, BUT...

First, make sure it's not just set wrong and turning off because it thinks it's hot enough. Is it on constantly, or is it turning off and on properly - just at the wrong temp? Next, realize that with two heaters they'll never be in sync, so one will do 98% of the load anyway and the second one will come on only when the first can't keep up. Third, with two heaters it's more likely that one will stick on and fry your fish. Fourth, 75 is typically a pretty good temp for convicts; your fish could be more sedentary for a number of other reasons.

All that being said, I use a 150 watt heater in my 20 gallon hospital tank when I need to raise the temp into the mid-to-high 80s.
