Basically I want to try and move my Argentea (4ish inches) out of my 75 gal into my 150(6x18 filtered with a 2262 and an ac110 packed with purigen and foam). Im either hoping to close the 75 gal down or turn it into a cold water heavily planted low maintenance tank.

This is my problem my kids love my pearsei and plecos so no way I can rehome them I love that I share this hobby with them. The argentea was aggressive to other args and hets in a 55 grow out when i first got him

Anyway the 150 is stocked with a Peasrsei (almost 6 inches) Vieja Heterospilus (3 to 3.5 inches) L200 pleco (4.5 inces), L600 pleco (3ish inches) with tiger bars as dithers.

Guys i have searched mfk and google and am aware that this could all go wrong but really would like some opinions on how to possibly make it go right. I read stories that args were serial killers to them not really bothering anyone.
My pearsei will bully the het but nothing serious im concerned with the argentea going berserker

Thoughts opinions advice.....

In situations like this you don't really know until you've tried it. And even then I think we all know the "psycho switch" can just turn on.

It's always a coin toss with central or South American community tanks.

You already know the arg can be aggressive. And the pearsei is already displaying dominance over the het.

What I think will happen is the argentea and the pearsei will have a go at it eventually.

I had a similar issue with a blackbelt in a 220 gallon. I really liked the fish, but in the end it was just too aggressive and unpredictable with tankmates (other mid-sized CA cichlids) so I traded it in at the LFS. I still regret not being able to keep it, but it was for the best in terms of overall satisfaction with the tank. You can try adding the argentea, but all signs point to problems, if not immediately, then perhaps suddenly and when you least expect it. Is it worth the risk?

Now you know why I have at least 20 tanks.
Central Americans have been my favorites since the beginning of my fish keeping days, in the late 1950s, and I've had to get another tank whenever they don't get along, and in the end, they never do.

Im gonna think this through. In the end i would have to end up choosing either the fish i love or the ones my kids do. I guess i could always throw him back in the 75 if things go south.

Yeah, I was gonna say keep that 75 handy just in case. My Argentea (approx 6") got a long fine with my 13" synspillum. And now seems to get along fine with my Oscar now that the syn is gone. I know this could change and everyone's experience could differ but try it and just be prepared with backup plan.

What sized tank are you keeping them in ?

What i should have done was open a thread regarding adult argentea tankmates experiences
