Hi,
I just got a 160 gallon (US) tank two weeks back and I have an alligator gar (8'), silver arowana (10''), red tail cat fish (5''). There are also two carps (big carps of around 2.5 pounds each). I have introduced a few mollys (around 1'' each) as food. Every morning i find 8-9 mollys missing. This means that the alligator, arowana and RTC are feeding (assuming that the carps are satisfied with their daily dose of fish food and are not consuming any live fishes). I think that this is a good sign.

However, I recently noticed that my rtc's belly is looking black. I dunno wat the problem is. He seems to be fine and sometimes during the night, I have also seen him chasing fish. Please temme if the black belly is normal or something's wrong with him.

Today, I also noticed that my arowana is sitting at the bottom of the tank and occasionally moving around. Physically, there seems to be nothing wrong with him. All scales are intact, fins are also fine and there are no signs of injuries. The arowana has been in this tank for almost 5 days now and this is the first time that I find him sitting at the bottom. Also, I have never seen my arowana or RTC eating any fish. But since the mollys go missing at night and i can safely assume that the 8'' alligator isn't consuming all the fishes, it can be deduced that both the RTC and the arowana are eating.

I am very new to monster fish keeping and my previous experience is with ornamental fishes only.

Please advice if everything is alright here or not.

First things first. Did you cycled your tank? Also you're tank can't house the arowana or the catfish for much longer. Also get you fishes off live fish and get them on pellets.

Moving on. The aro is probably

A) scare/being bullied
B) stressed from your water quality.

I have just recently changed the water - around 40%. Jst added a bit of salt to the water and the arowana is back to the surface....
Pellets for Arowana are nt available here. I am going to change to processed fish in a few days.

all of'em r hardly 2-3 mnths old.... My gator is very very calm and as long as it has plenty of food, der's no reason fr it to attack my RTC (which I think is growing by half an inch per day LOL). My arowana is also more or less reserved with its own affairs and does nt seem aggressive at all.... If there r ne signs of aggression in the future, I'll definitely let dem go.
