Far Far away
hey MFK I need help doing my pond. I was going to do the pond liner but someone told me that the pond was to big for that and it would not be so much if you use the concrete. So if someone could show me how to do the step by step on the concrete with pic ifyou have them or a link or a liner hook up would be good.I will put up some pic asap.

No one has ever posted a step-by step for a large concrete pond here.

Have you priced liner? it's usually cheaper (at least in the states) than installed concrete.

What size pond are you going for?

And as far as cost goes where are you and how much is concrete there?

I second Joe...

Liner is usually much cheaper. Even large, PVC Vinyl liner, which is used on large ponds, is more cost effective than concrete.

I agree, liner will be cheaper. What size pond are you building? If its very large you will need to use large re-bar and that can get expensive. I've built both and liner is by far the easiest to work with. Plus you have the benefit of not having to wait for all of the chemicals to be gone before you can put in fish, if you use concrete.

Here's my concrete pond (about 3000g) and my new one that I'm working on (about 8000g). This one will be liner

Thanks. Yeah with that size, you are definately better off going with a liner, not to mention its so much easier. Since its not that big, you wouldnt need the re-bar but you would need some type of reinforcement. Regular chicken wire would be fine, but thats also more money.

What type of concrete was it, price seems a little high? When I built my concrete pond, I layed the foundation with regular fence post mix and topped it off with a layer of plastic cement to seal it from leaks. I love the look and feel of concrete ponds but its just too much work if youre gonna DIY.

Something else to think about is that liner ponds aren't as permanent as concrete. If one day you decide its not for you, remove the liner and fill in the hole and its gone. With a concrete pond, youre gonna need some dynamite!!!! :WHOA:

Oh, and take my advice. Build as BIG as you can fit/afford. The concrete pond was a lot smaller than pictured. I ended up making it bigger once the koi started growing. It was not fun having to break through several inches of concrete and extend the pond!! Here's some before, during and after pics.
