I feel I have a major problem, I just bought a extremely high end flowerhorn and it is not eating at all. i've had it for about 4 days now, and all it will do is take the food in and spit it out. It seems as though it is not consuming anything which I know is really strange behaviour for a flowerhorn. Any suggestions please let me know.:( This specimen has the potential to be worth over $1000 when fully grown, it has a extremely large hump a incredible full dark black bar of flowers and amazing pearl at only 3.5 inches... I will post pics if you help me!:naughty:

Try krill....it is probably not used to eating whatever your feeding. Give it a few days, once it is hungry like a POW it should eat.

starve it untill it eats. If what you say is true and it's "extremely high end" then it came from overseas and is still adjusting. this is normal, don't feed it any treats untill it accepts pellet. It will get hungry and eat. If it goes a while like 3 weeks, then offer other foods. But it will get hungry and eat what you offer sooner or later.

Need pics of the fish to see if what you say is true :naughty::grinno:

I tried krill, live minows, pellets and more... he just keeps chewing it then spitting it out until eventually he just leaves it...

Try live, unfortunately.

this is horrible advice IMO. Feeders harbor disease sometimes, and if the fish is "very high end" FH, then it cost $200+. Would you risk it with a fish this expensive?? I know I wouldn't, plus the fact that it won't help the color of the fish at all. Pellet is the best way, along with freeze dried krill, mysis, raw shrimp, etc..

I had a fish that would not eat for 3 weeks once I got it. He finally accepted pellet and was no problem after that. You just need to be patient. This is normal and very common problem with imported flowerhorn. Get a couple different kinds of pellet, and put a few pellets in during the morning and again in the evening untill it eats. If he doesn't eat them within a couple minutes, remove them. He will eat when he gets hungry enough.

Yea I agree with vittleking..however its really suprising that a 3.5 incher is picky already...normally at such a young age they are not as picky an eatter ..if you worry about parasites and all that you can look at the natural coloration and stress marks of the fish in addition to its activity and behaviour.
