Long island
i got my datnoid four days ago and hes still not eating. I was thinking maybe i should put him in a ten gallon hospital til i can plump him up or should i just let him stay in the display tank because hes already adjusted to it? Do you guys have any helpful hints to get this guy to eat for me. Maybe a favorite food to trigger a feeding response. Hes looking a bit skinny. Any help is much appreciated i dont want to lose this guy.

U could try market prawn. After they take market prawn then you could try soaking pellets with market prawn for few mins before
feeding them.
Members here have try 2 weeks starve matter to train their tiger into pellets. some have upto 3 to 4 weeks.

Last resource put feeder fish if they are too skinny.

Good luck on your tigers!!!!

Usually they will take feeders without problem. It took my small ones be starved to take prawns. They need to be fat and healthy before you should try that. Depending on what is in the display take, it may not be feasible to put feeders in there. A smaller tank would be better to get it going and eventually training it to take prawn would be a logical process.

My display has uarus and severums. Not much aggression but the tiger seems very shy. i been putting in cut up frozen freshwater flounder letting it thaw and dropping it in. i saw him try to take a grab at it but swam off without it. Do worms work? maybe live black worms. I dont like the feeders because of the possibilities of contracting disease. I would be fine with it if i raised my own feeders but i dont really have room to do that.

If it already tried to take the flounder then that is a start. It may go after the black worms but so would the other fish and they'd likely eat most of it.Keep up with the flounder and it should soon start snapping it up....Dats are usually shy and like to hide. They are ambush predators in the wild.

Panicking over nothing. I ve had new Indos take weeks , some
Months before eating.
If u post a current picture of fish, we
Can advise if starving is the best method or not.

well hes been trying to catch guppies so im gonna ween him off that and hope he takes the flounder. He is showing interest in eating. thanks for all the help

Nothing to worry about, dats sometimes take a while to adjust to a new tank. Try tubiflex worms or frozen mysis shrimp. It's always worked for me with new smaller dats.
