I got 2 Cichla Intermedia from River Wonders yesterday. After 4 hours in my tank they both developed white spots on their bodies and fins. I examined them before putting them in and nothing. also looks like some scales/ flesh is missing between their eyes, almost like big pores. I've treated the tank with salt 1 cup to 150 gallons not all of the water has been added also treated with a 60% dose of coppersafe as I have loaches in this tank also. I need help as to what to treat with aswell. I will try and get pics but they don't show up in the pictures I took yesterday.

You don't want to throw too many things into the tank at once. I'd sit with the salt and coppersafe (I personally wouldn't use coppersafe). Raise the temperature to 84-86dF.

Sounds like ich. It's very common with pbass, especially young ones. The higher water temp (86) should knock it out within a few days.

Thanks I hope so.

Yep.. NO MORE MEDS! The heat should do it. You can raise it past that if you want. You may want to add more air if you do.

Yeah, I did a 50% waterchange redosed with salt and the temp is averaging 87-88. I also turned my autowater change system back on and will dose with salt daily.

Well here is an update. White spots are 99% gone now. tank is at 89 and adding salt twice a day as I still run my auto water changer that changes out 50 gallons a day. Can anyone tell me what HITH looks like? The 2 Intermedia have multiple deep holes between their eyes that looks bad. The bigger of the 2 has one really big looking spot on his head I wish I could get better pictures but you can see it slightly in the included pictures. It doesn't seem to be getting any worse but could use some insight for these 2 little guys.

Also does anyone feed thier guys minnows from the bait shop? I need to find a cheaper place for feeders as the Rosy Reds are getting expensive. I do quarentine them for a few days before feeeding them to um. Figure I could get them cheaper even if I have to seperate them for longer. Sorry this has gotten so long but I have alot invested in these 2.

i know nothing of HITH, but i would be seriously pissed if i bought a fish and it came home with it..

when we've had ich problems, mostly from bringing baby pbass home from one LFS that we go to. we raise the temp to 90, we don't add air because we have sponge filters in all of the tanks, but if we didn't we would add an airstone. or an entire sponge filter. and we add salt, 1 tsp per gallon, and yes, i've stood at my kitchen sink and counted 100 tsps of salt.. lol.
