I am trying to establish a feeder tank where I can breed rosey reds or Guppies to feed to my piranha. Anyone have any expierence in this area of breeding feeder fish?

I have experience with that. It's completely utterly hopeless unless you designate several multi-hundred-gallon containers to the cause.

30 guppy fry take about6 months to go from newborn to 1". 30 1" guppies offer about 2 days of feeding. Think about all the money time and effort you'll be putting into the tank-- waterchanges, feeding, electricity, etc.-- to get those 30 guppy fry to 1". All for 2 days' worth of feeding.

It's cute in theory, but its not practical unless done on a very large scale.

I breed Brine Shrimp. Its quite easy........ you take a male brine shrimp and put it into the rectum of a female brine shrimp. after this brocess in 2 to 100 months three thousand brine shrimp will inhabit your tank. I use the brine shrimp as seasoning on top of my arowana meal.......aslo called Aro Ala Mode.

It's so much easier to breed flowerhorns. The problem is finding cheap ones at breeding age, and they don't need to be big. At 4inches, the flowerhorns will breed. Separate the frys after hatching and feed them powdered Colorbits, in a 10 gallon tank. Then at 1 to 2" size, put them into a 30 gallon tank. They should be ready for slaughter. The flowerhorns will breed at 82 degree water in a 60 gallon to 100 gallon tank. Put some driftwood and flowerpots in it.

i breed convicts, there extreemly easy!

i have never ever bred convicts :(

depending on where you are located you could put a kiddie pool outside and breed them there. but i breed my own feeders and it takes more gallons of water for them than for all 9 of my display tanks and they only feed about 4 of my fish. go to the lake and catch some or buy them at the bait shop if there is no lfs that sells good feeders. make sure to quarentine them for a while first. but convicts are a better bet than guppies
