Yes stop feeding him earthworms, I went through the same thing, he will eat eventually.

Went through the same thing with my jd's. They eventually ate the pellets. First one didn't eat for about a month. Second one took about a week. After that they loved then. Remember that they won't let themselves die, they will eat eventually.

Nope a variety is good but the first step is to get it to eat the pellets

My oscar is funny like that. With pellets I feed him two at a time and let him crunch them up and swallow before repeating. If I dump a load in at once he will go around every individual pellet sucking it in and spitting it out. I think he likes me feeding him like a baby.

Oscars are funny when it comes to food. I have never had such strange issues with food until I had kept an Oscar. I was feeding the Hikari food sticks and the Oscar absolutely loved them. I noticed some of the smaller tankmates struggling to eat the stick so I snapped them into little pellet sizes and fed the fish. The Oscar would not eat the food broken up like this. As soon as I put the full sticks in he would start to eat again. He liked what he liked.

Just keep plugging away with the pellets and he will come around.

The pellets are a lot harder than the other live food you've been feeding him. Try soaking the pellets in a cup of tank water for 5 mins before feeding.

It is entirely possible for the fish to starve to death. They won't always give in before they starve to death. I've lost 2 Kelberi to the fact that I was just as stubborn as they were. Fish can go a good long while between meals, but if the fish looks emaciated, feed him whatever he'll eat, fatten him back up and try a new approach. There are plenty of pellet training threads on here. A little research and you are sure to find a method that will work for your fish. GL with the training!
