Long story short (i am not nor do I want bad mouthing on this thread) I can home to find all my fish dead in 1 tank. The heater had come on and stayed on to a high temperature and killed my fish. I called Marineland and in short I need to mail in my heater a letter head of the fish(s) value and proof that the fish were in my tank. My questions are

1. For proof I should have pictures but I know I have video will they except video (youtube)
2. How can I ensure that I get the value or near value of the fish

I think the video will work as long as they know its your account. As far a fish value u can get some local stores to value ur fish or letters from vendors for fish values. I have one remaining marineland heater that I will be switching out soon as they can't be trusted. Good luck

already got the LFS to write down the fish(s) value and am looking for fish pictures (of them alive). Took pictures as soon as I saw it.

When I lived at home my 75 sprung a leak and caused about 5 grand in damage to my dads house. The insurance actually gave my dad $150 in lost fish and destroyed equipment. I did the right thing and told my dad to keep the money because I wasn't home when it happened

send them everything you have... and make sure you have duplicates incase anything gets lost. be thankful they are doing anything.. most places will replace the product and thats it.

If you keep a journal of your water parameters that would help a lot as well (yes, there are some of us THAT anal!) as it would help prove it was the heat that killed them and not something else.

I just dealt with this exact same thing and got my check last week. They were awesome about it. I am holding a baby so I only have one hand to type, but I will post the details for you later, Call them, they are very nice.
