I currently have a 120g tank with silver dollars, rainbows, angels, and some other small fish, and my retic of course.
I think I want other fw rays, which of course I will need much larger accomodations.
I have never built a tank myself, however, after seeing some of the plywood diy projects I'm pretty excited.
So what do you all think?
Tank(1500g+)
or SR pond(700-900g @ 24" high)

Like I said I haven't built before, so I would appreciate any helpful hints, tips, or expiriences.

And once it's finished, I may need some leads on some new rays!

There are plenty of ideas and designs in the DIY sections.
Advantage of plywood tank with a window you can observe rays from side/underwater view vs.
a pond which only allows top view unless you buy one with a prefabbed window.
And then it comes down to are you willing/able to do the build yourself.

I'm kinda looking for advice from experience. What has worked or not worked for anyone?

A very very big footprint. Thats basically it tankwise. If you dont want to build it, I used to use huge water containers as "ponds". They work perfectly fine as well, but the heat loss is pretty intense and it looks really crappy. Better if you go with a plywood tank insulated during the winter.

do a little research, like gshock said people use a little bit of everything from stock tanks, ponds, and plywood builds. it just comes down to what foot print you want and how good you want it to look, also do you want to be able to see the rays from the sides.

If I'm gonna build it, it must look good. One thing I pride myself on is the fact that I have 28 pets and all of them are kept in quality areas that look nice in the house. I think I am leaning towards the 'tank' idea. I just didn't know if the were any benefits to a 'pond'.
What do you guys use? Did you build it yourselves? I can google info and look at stickies, however I find experience is the best advice! Tanks

I think I'm going to try this thread in the DIY and Projects section. Thanks for the info.
