I have a 55 gallon freshwater tank I just setup after all my other fish died. I am interested in getting a fire eel but I also thought about getting a hammers blue lobster. I can't have both but I'm also not sure what fish would go best with either. Any advise would be great

The blue lobster would be best by himself, you always run the risk of either the lobster eating your fish or the fish eating the lobster. Small fish are better in a 55 cause they are only 12 inches wide, the same as a 10 gallon aquarium. I stay away from 55s because they are so narrow. It could be a great community tank of smaller fish

If I had my 55 to do over again it would have been done in troppical flashy fish. almost any fish in a tank of this type starts to have problem turning around. So I hould keep it to 6inch or less type fish 8 at the most. with the exeption being an eal of some kind.

I wouldn't go with a Fire Eel (they can get up to 3') if you are wanting an eel then go with something smaller like a peacock (10-12"). Fire eels will get to large for your 55 and then you will either have to rehome or get a larger tank.

if the other fish were in the same tank, hopefully the problem that caused the deaths has been resolved. Just go with a smaller spiny eel and some other smaller fish that you may like, plenty of choices out there depending on taste/preference.

My fish looked all fat an stuff and I thought they were pregnant but they actually had a disease

Yea I thoroughly cleaned everything and im sure the problems fixed. I really like the way the eel looks. It I'm not a huge fan of the peacock eel, are there any other types? I haven't seen any yet

I have a fire eel and he is a very good friend. I can hand feed him and even pet him. He likes to swim through my hands when i make a circle with them. Id go with the eel. Hard to make the lobster your friend.
