Hi,
I just bought a motoro stingray this sunday and the ray was active all day sunday, saturday and monday and early today. The ray is now buried and seems to be breathing very shallow. Is there anything other than a waterchange that I can do to help? I just tested the water and everything is good, except nitirites are a little high. I am going to go do a waterchange now. Thanks in advance.

is it eating? my rays will breath heavier then normal whenever they burry themselves...

Nitrites are no good.. dose with Prime, water change, and discontinue feedings until your biofilter is better established..

x2.....also add some seachem stability or cycle or if you can get it bio spira would be the best

OK thanks for the replies, I did a waterchange and added prime. I did feed the ray before I saw the comment not to feed them and the ray unburried himself and ate, he is now back to his normal self and is active. What I did notice however is that he has a cut on the bottom outer edge of his disk. It doesn't look like a bite mark(there are no fish in the tank that could have bite him) and there is nothing in the tank that he could of cut himself on so I think he cut himself because he does this thing where while climbing the glass he hits himself on the cover. How do I treat this to make sure that it doesn't get infected? Thanks again

Oh I forgot to add, my biofilter is established, the tank has been set up for 6+ months.

your filter is not 100% if your showing high nitrites..... add a lil salt for the cut on its bottom and keep the water clean... rays heal quickly

Thanks that helps, I was really nervous. My nitrites were only <1.5 so there not really that high. How much salt should I add to the tank? The rays not going to have a scare or anything like that once it heals will he? Thanks for the help again I will be adding some of this bio spira.

Hi, my brother kept a motoro for several years and it would get the same injuries from hitting the rim at the top of the tank. As for treatment there is not much to do other than keeping good water chemestry and maybe a dose of prime (for slim coat). A good option for you might be like we did and add a bead of silicone to the undeside of you aquarium rim and smooth it out so that even if you ray hits it it reduces the damage caused.
