Need help finding a fish.

First time poster, 5 month fishkeeper.

My dad used to have a tank about 20 years ago, but since I have taken a liking to this hobby, I got him wanting a tank. So we got him a 20 gallon yet to be setup and he tells me about this fish he really liked that he had in his old 30 gal (which since has been sold or whatever!).

Anyways, here's what he's told me about the fish:

Black
Gray stripe a long the side
Looked like a shark

I know this is a murky description, but if I can get a photo lineup, he'll be able to point it out. I think it's a danio, but I have such little experience with those, so I don't know. I'd really like to find that fish for him if I can.

How big was it ?
What shape Was it ?
Did it swim on the bottom, middle or top of the tank ?

These can limit down to types of fish and it will be hard to get down to exact fish as some fish from 20 years ago are not in the hobby anymore.

well what about size what did it swim at top middle or bottom dweller or maybe even freshwater or saltwater we need more ID before it can be the proper ID of that certain fish

Possibly a flying fox or similar cyprinid.

I think it was about 3-5 inches... maybe a bit more. It swam pretty much everywhere from what he told me, and as for its shape, it's shaped like a shark or barracuda.

Woop, we just found it. It was a silver/balla shark. He confirmed it. Thanks y'all.

dont put one in a 20g, these fish get up to a foot long and are a schooling species.

Yeah, I just read that up. That's a shame. My dad isn't too disappointed about it though. Thanks again for that quick help fellas.
