My last flowerhorn I purchased from a lfs died from internal parasites....I used Parasite guard by tetra and it still died....

I just purchased a new flowerhorn and spent a good amount on it....how do I ensure that my tank is safe and parasite free for my new fish that arrives on Thursday??

Any help is appreciated...

Thanks guys...I was just reading the sticky....It appears the information was geared toward treating a new fish in a tank as a precautionary measure...or treating an already sick fish....

I was thinking treating a tank that housed a sick fish may have a different protocol....I assume not then....

Prevention is key. Avoid live feeders. Even frozen bloodworms are risky imo...even though many treat their fish with them. I lost several flowerhorns when they died from internal parasites and the only source I can turn to was the bloodworms I used as treats...no more.

Along with a good diet and pristine water conditions, you're good to go.

Thanks fisheatfish...I was feeding Blood worms and Bio-gold plus...I think it was a pleco, however.... Moving forward I'm scared to use any of it...What do you feed now??

beantickler, what meds do you use?? And thanks for the advice...much appreciated

I feed my flowerhorns a variety of pellets. Hikari bio gold is fine. I also give them NLS, Alife, freeze dried shrimp and I use to give them live meal worms from when I had arowanas...great source of protein with no risk of parasites.
