Before I moved I had a maintenance account at a restaurant. I gave it to a friend when I left and now there is an issue. It is an oceanic 220 with no center brace and hence no top other than canopy. I had it set up as a reef for 2 years until plumbing leak in closed loop caused a complete tank dismantle. Animals didnt take it well so we ended up losing a lot and decided to switch over to freshwater because the owner has a limited budget.
We switched to african cichlids. I put 150 mixed small mbuna I had been breeding into the tank with 400lbs of rockwork. It worked great and looked awesome for two more years. Numbers got up to about 250 or so with breeding but still looked great. Tank massively overfiltered by the way. It has a wet dry sump with enough media for a 1500 gallon system. Owner left town and didnt tell me or anyone else to top off sump. Sump ran dry, circulation stopped, O2 dropped, and 100 fish died. Cleaned the whole system out an kept what we had. Numbers were still good enough to disperse aggression and all living fish about the same size so we were good.
Since then tank had rebounded again in numbers with breeding until a hurricane power outage caused another die off event. Now the numbers are too low for aggression dispersion and they are being taken out one by one. Have about 80 left now and was going to tell my friend to trade them in to the lfs we deal with and restock with something different. Sorry for long back story but with that credit we have to restock, so limited budget.
It is a restaurant so we need sturdy fish that kids will like to look at. I was thinking maybe a CA/ SA community. Any ideas would be very helpful. What do you think?
