Ok my mom finally found the digital camera, so now i can take pics. I bought this 125g off of craigslist and the guy he bought it off of made it himself. He had water in it an fish when i got there so i know it holds water. (and hell if it decides it doesnt want to hold water for me anymore ill go reptiles in it :D)

So it needs some kind of top, my cousin wants me to put screen, but i tell him that i want something to help stop evaporation.

in the process of buying wood so i can put doors on the tank stand.

I think im going to get a new one as this looks a lil rusty, but the white pvc pipe in the tank connects to this and it is easy to drain it, and i was just going to see if i could hook up a Fluval FX5 right to there.

So any ideas for the top of the tank or anything in general i can DIY to make it better?

Well there are a few options.

1. Wood frame with plastic sheeting. Cheap method, but tit does the trick. Not very pretty.
2. Acrylic tops - DIY or cut at a local plastics shop - acrylic can bow, si it needs to be reinforced.
3. Glass tops - DIY or cut at a local glass shop.

i was thinking glass, and i know the guy who owns the local glass shop in my town pretty good, just how so i can make it into like a lid type thing. I dont wanna lift this huge piece of glass up everytime i i feed the fish or do tank maintence

I have half a lid on my 90 right now, it is about half the width of my tank, works good fore me, as it slides over half of the tank (there is water lettuce on the other side.

You could go one step further and build a frame with tracks on it, so 2 pieces can slide like a cabinet door or a closet door...You might want to have the glass guy drill a couple of handles in the ends to help grip the panes when sliding.

This method would allow access to half the tank at one time, completely covered or??

I think it'd help if you busted out that camera you found and take some pictures so people can see what you're working with.

you can always check your lfs and see if they can get you some plastic hinges so you can make your own glass tops, or you could probably order some from glasscages.com

Glass is fine, But I prefer 1/4" lexan. It allows you to run some fine sandpaper over the edges to round them off. I've gotten a few nasty cuts from glass and avoid it now. Not to mention that on occasion your going to be in a hurry or being sloppy and drop one.

At least I have.
