i have an opportunity to pick up a short body red texas, which 2.5-3" in size, but hasn't faded yet.

the fellow who is selling swears that the parents are red.

now what i want to know is whether i should pick it up and will it fade in future.

The only way to assure yourself is to ask for some pictures and make the decision. You should also ask if he ever bred this pair before, if he did then he should know if it will fade or not.

its easy to tell a RT from a GT. if its still black look for the common GT pearl pattern. RED texas do have has as nice pearls as a real GT.

post up a pic, ill let u know if its real. Also GT fade quicker then a RT

It depends on how much he is asking for the fish and if he can prove the parents are both red texas....it's best if the parents are on hand to view....so how much is he asking for the fish?

Even if both parents are red, there is no guarantee that the offspring will be red.
This is the correct answer... Who cares what the parents look like... I don't know about you but I buy fish for how they look, not how they might look. If the fish is CHEAP then buy it but please dont spent SRT money for an unfaded fish. It could fade to red. It could fade to orange. It could have black unfaded patches on it. It could not even fade.
