I have a 5" NTT that I got about 2 weeks ago. I've tried giving him shrimp, pellets, blackworms, blood worms, meal worms, krill, mysis shrimp, and he won't eat any of it. The previous owner told me he only ate feeders and saw him try to nibble at krill. I won't give him feeders though and he didn't try to eat the frozen krill I put in the tank. He won't eat anything, but he looks healthy otherwise. He doesn't look stressed, is swimming normally and is actually pretty stable right now. The water parameters are OK and the temp is at 82. All the other fish I have in the tank with him are eating normally.

Is there something I can do to get him to eat? I just want him to eat something, but I won't give any of my fish feeders because of bad experiences in the past with them. Is there a certain type of food besides feeders that almost every dat will eat?

most of the things you mentioned are to small

stick with prawns or massivore

if he has only been eating feeders it may take you some time like 6 weeks before he eats anything give him a good feed of feeders then thats it no more your the boss not the fish EAT OR DIE

One of my recent 4" ntt procurements also did not want to eat anything at first. I tried frozen krill the first couple of days with no luck. I then tried hikari flash dried krill. I soak them in water & peel them so they sink to the bottom. The stubborn ntt started swallowing & spitting out the krill. Started eating it after the second try. i now soak tilapia & hikari sinking pellets with the krill water -- it has started to swallow & spit the tilapia & pellets. just a matter of time now. Crazy little fish, no go on the frozen krill but likes the dried version.

Whoa, that's awesome. Thanks Frank. I'm going to try that. Thanks T1 for your advice too. It's tough seeing an NTT not eat for so long, but you're right, the owner has to train the fish and not give in too easily.

Im stuck in the same situation. My wild caught 7" NTT hasent eaten in 10 days. I wont feed live because i have other monsters in the tank that im afraid will get too excited. Ive tried prawn, masivore, crickets, and nightcrawlers. It seems to get a little more intrested in the worms each time i feed the tank.

It was in rough shape when i got it. Had a tiny amount of ich and some fin rot. Fins are growing back fast and ich is gone. It still hides 95% of the day. I can tell its going to take some time for it to eat.

My question is.....has anyone ever had a fish die when trying to use the starvation method?

Post some pictures. Sounds like we got ours around the same time.
